More About Our Founder
Our founder, Karolyn Diaz, is a first-generation college graduate and the first in her family to achieve the impressive feat of earning a bachelor's & master's dual-degree in Accounting and a second master's degree in Finance. More specifically, Karolyn's degrees are a BS/MS dual-degree in Accounting, emphasized in Entrepreneurial Perspectives and an MBA in Finance to support her colleagues in the financial services industry. Along with her degrees, Karolyn also obtained a minor in Spanish as a way to honor her hispanic heritage.

A Passion for her Heritage
Karolyn's Hispanic heritage plays a significant role in her life. Born in Los Angeles, she comes from a mixed bloodline from Peru and Mexico. She grew up bilingual with Spanish as her first language. To top it off, Karolyn has been married over 10 years to her husband, James, who comes from a Colombian heritage. That said, they are proud to raise their daughter in a mix of cultures all rooting from a latino-heritage. She's passionate about pouring back into her community because she's lived through the challenges herself and is determined to empower women and minority-owned businesses with the knowledge they need to lead with confidence.

The Challenges of a First-gen College Graduate
To highlight her biggest challenge, she never grew up knowing about the different tracks there were within the accounting profession until her junior year of college. That's when her counselors asked her to pick between audit and tax for her internship. She thought she wanted to do tax and went ahead and got hired for a tax internship at Crowe Horwath. A couple of weeks into her internship, an audit need arose that they asked her to fill, leading her internship to switch to audit. That's when Karolyn found out that she actually enjoyed audit more than tax but she didn't change her degree to audit, she changed her degree to (spoiler alert) Entrepreneurial perspectives. True to her entrepreneurial spirit, Karolyn believed in balancing diverse skillsets rather than being confined to one area. This fit Karolyn well because once she graduated, she was accepted at PwC, one of the Big Four accounting firms (the largest accounting firms globally), in their audit practice and she specifically joined their Financial Services sector, which later changed to what they call the Asset Management and Real Estate sector within the firm.

Inside her Career Track Record
After an 8-year tenure with PwC managing the audits of both public and private real estate clients, Karolyn worked for two years at Embark as a consultant on their Financial Accounting Advisory Services team. Her contributions helping clients improve their accounting processes and navigating a plethora of challenging technical accounting concepts earned her a seat on a team of subject matter experts at Embark specializing in real estate funds.
In June 2024, Karolyn chose to step back from corporate accounting to focus her time on being at home making memories with her family and exploring her own entrepreneurial pursuits. Shortly thereafter, Karolyn co-founded Diaz & Romo CPA, PLLC with her best friend and business partner, Susana Romo, whom she met while they were both studying Accounting at UNT and active members of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA). Shortly after their growth experience, in June 2025 Karolyn and Susana rebranded to launch their own boutique firms to focus each of their specific skillsets and build efficient processes for their clients. Since then, Karolyn has focused on building content specific to business accounting & bookkeeping, financial advisory, and assurance so that women and minority-owned businesses can leverage her experience and knowledge to support their own business growth and operations!
Karolyn's excited to be able to build a brand that puts people first and shares key knowledge at no cost to her audience/clients.
Let’s end it with something fun…
In her free time, Karolyn loves traveling and planning trips for her family. Her number one priority is to be present and enjoy the now all while making time to care for herself both physically and mentally. If she’s not planning vacations, you can find Karolyn working out on her Tonal, at the pool, or taking nature walks. She loves authentic food; from Mexican to Peruvian to Colombian to Asian to Mediterranean - you name it, she strives to master many authentic recipes in the kitchen!
